Illegal practice of medicine in aesthetics

In 2020, we are increasingly seeing beauticians exceeding the scope of their skills.

This is leading to a growing number of accidents.

Without realising it, they often even cross the line of legality. 

​

By performing certain acts reserved by law for doctors of medicine, they are guilty of illegally practising medicine.

​

In this case, it is important to know that they are not covered by ANY professional insurance.

This means that, in the event of a problem, you will not be entitled to ANY compensation in court!

What procedures are prohibited by law for non-doctors?​

1/ ALL procedures involving injections through human skin.

2/ Hair removal other than waxing or tweezing (i.e. no laser or pulsed light!)

3/ The use of certain powerful laser or other machines (HIFU, etc.)

 

Any procedures for which they have never been trained (beautician schools are very strict on this point).

concerns the use of Botox and fillers, which have even been offered in some centres recently.

Some believe they can circumvent the law by injecting ‘without needles’ using pressurised injection guns that they purchase in China... This remains illegal and the results are disastrous.

Laser hair removal:

In France, beauticians who performed laser or pulsed light hair removal have been prosecuted and convicted for illegally practising medicine (see link here).

 

Consequences of illegal acts:

 

1/ No professional insurance covers these acts or these beauticians.

As a result, do not expect compensation if there is a problem.

2/ Often, the necessary products or machines are not available to non-doctors, so everything is purchased online (often in China) without any guarantee of safety under EC or FDA (United States) standards.

3/ It goes without saying that their skills are limited and that many accidents occur and end up in our clinics (see some examples in the photos below).

The lack of basic medical knowledge and specific training is often replaced by watching a few ‘tutorials’ on YouTube... !?!?

Fake certificates of competence are circulating to display on the wall of one's ‘beauty salon’.

​

The potential side effects are very serious: injections into arteries whose path is unknown, second-degree (or third-degree) burns from powerful machines (including pulsed light for hair removal), infection due to lack of TRUE sterility, etc.

This is a public health warning and not a sectoral defence consideration ! ​​
